I wanted to set a pretty table but I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I had to start thinking about what I was going to do. I find that if I plan ahead, things go a lot smoother and I'm not rushing out to buy stuff because I'm in a panic. So I did a 'trial run'.
The only things I purchased were the little blocks that say "give thanks", and the pumpkins. Everything else I had on hand.
I found the pretty little purple asters growing in the ditch! I know that by October, I will have to buy some from the store - but that won't be too much of a problem.
I've had these colourful dishes for almost 10 years (and not one is chipped)! I cannot abide a chipped plate - it drives me crazy. Anyone else feel like that?
As I was setting the table I tried to make every place setting different and not have any place settings sitting side-by-side that had the same colour of plate. Do you know how difficult that can be? Hmmm, maybe it's just me . . .
Gold, purple, green. Burgundy, gold, purple. Green, gold, burgundy. Burgundy, green, gold.
I made the napkin rings from scrapbook paper and tucked a spring of thyme in each one.
I was pretty happy with my centrepiece. I used a glass tray that has two 'levels' and put the candles on the top level. After I arranged everything I sprinkled green rocks over everything and added a few willow balls for extra texture.
I also made a few maple leaves from scrapbook paper and sprinkled them over the tablecloth.
Now I'm set! or should I say "the table is set"!

very nice! i love that plate set! love all the colors and pattern, too!
ReplyDeleteBarb, you are my idol! I usually wait until about 2 days (if I'm lucky) before to decide what I'm doing. And, if I had set the table that beautifully, I'd put a drop cloth on it with a sign that reads 'Off Limits until Thanksgiving' just so I wouldn't have to do it over. And I want those dishes!!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh you are so good...I have Thanksgiving every year...but ours ofcourse is in November. Can I borrow your plates & bowls...they would look equally nice on my table. Love the decor, all the mix and match is wonderful. So much to see, your guests will be delighted.
