The hermit

noun
  1. In modern colloquial usage, the term "hermit" is sometimes used for anyone living a life apart from the rest of society, or who simply does not participate in social events as much as is common, regardless of their motivation in doing so.
  2. A spiced molasses cookie often containing raisins or nuts.


I spent this past weekend hunkered down inside - it was coooold outside! I did go out to try to get a few inspirational shots but my hands were freezing - they actually hurt!

To keep busy I craft and bake. I have so many projects on the go - mostly Christmas stuff, that I'm starting to feel confused. Today I'm going to take a break and go into town to shop around a bit. I also have errands to run. I have not been anywhere since November 14th when I dropped my hubby off at the airport!! That's a long time even for me, the self-proclaimed recluse.

Don't be alarmed - it's not always like this. My social life comes and goes in spurts. I think that since the time changed and darkness arrives at 4:30, the snow fell and the temperatures plummeted I've gone into some kind of withdrawal. Well, today is the day I get out of it. I'm going to call a friend.

I don't want to be like the second bullet point in the hermit definition - a bit nutty . . .

    i am totally a hermit as well, and sometimes have to pry myself off the place to go into town and forage for food! :) these shots are beautiful!

    I'm totally a hermit also in winter time. If I have my day off from work and I have to go to the grocery store I do it during the day light or otherwise I'll be without food, after darkness I won't move my feet anywhere.
    It is totally winter there:)

    Fantastic photos and yes, sometimes I´m a hermit. All animals go to sleep in wintertime and use the inner space. Why not ?

    Since my retirement almost 10 years ago, I'm somewhat of a hermit, I guess. I do live in town, albeit it's a very small town, and I am active in our church and one community organization....but I rarely spend much time outside of my house anymore. I'm working to change that in the next few months, but not so often during winter. Your second image looks the coldest to me because the sun during winter is almost always deceptive. Beautiful winter images!

    I kind of do the "hermit thing" at this time of year also Barb. We have had an unseasonably mild autumn, but I know that will end soon. For me it's the lack of daylight. Just feel like staying inside when that happens.

    You've captured some beautiful bits of winter! I know what you mean about the challenges of shooting in the winter, but your images prove how it's worth the freezing hands!
    Hermit - me too, in the winter. Winter seems to encourage that hunkering-down mode!

    I could swear I see a white dove in that second picture in the snow on that bush/tree, he even has an eye from the dried foliage!

    Your two images are super. Really enjoyed seeing these. Hermitting isn't so bad these days, with the internet giving us the world at our fingertips. In no time at all, you'll be sitting outdoors again, with that mug of coffee from your profile :-)

    That's such an amazing first shot - well done for capturing such a clever one in the freezing cold. It's so interesting to read about your winter, for me that's certainly winter in it's purest form with darkness at 4:30pm! No wonder you prefer to be inside. I was once in England and couldn't believe that even though I was wearing multiple layers, as soon as you walk outside the coldness just goes straight through you. Even though I don't live where it snows, I can totally relate to time by myself, if I don't get it I start feeling a little crazy. I hope your day out went really well and that you had an enjoyable time with your friend.

    When it gets cold outside and the days are short, I think we all become a little like hermits, or I like to refer to myself as a snuggler. We don't have to go out to socialize....we all do quite well via the internet and blogging. And just think, we don't even have to put on make-up or get dressed. Delightful images of the snow, it will come here soon enough.

    The snow is so pretty! Nothing wrong with being a hermit every now and then. I kind of enjoy it and I don't even have the excuse of snow!

    I recall the aromas coming from my grandmother's kitchen, so many years ago, when she baked hermits.
