In autumn I get what some other people get during spring and summer. I can't seem to sit at the computer very long. My attention is being drawn outside. I don't want to miss that last hurrah, I guess. I just want to be out watching the leaves turn and taking in the familiar sights and sounds and smells. All of a sudden I feel like going for walks. I collect leaves, bunches of dried grasses or grains, and . . . photos. I'm watching and waiting and hoping to capture the essence of autumn and trying to hold on to it. The very fact that I can't is what makes it so precious. I've been unable to create at the computer the last few days so when I saw this quote by Nathaniel Hawthorne, it really spoke to me.
"I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air"
Nathaniel Hawthorne
