The mushroom series - Part I

I have a fascination with mushrooms and our yard, being part shade is absolutely full of them. Mushrooms are bizarre, and beautiful at the same time. I found these little gems while out picking wildflowers. Believe me, I did not even touch them! I do remember my Dad picking mushrooms from the ditches and bringing them in for Mom to cook - which she would not do. So Dad would clean them, chop them, fry them and eat them all by himself! We kids would watch in horror, hoping that Mom's predictions would not come true! It really made an impression on me as Dad never cooked - ever. He never did poison himself either.

"I confess, that nothing frightens me more than the appearance of mushrooms on the table, especially in a small provincial town."
~Alexandre Dumas, early 19th century~

  3. Picking mushrooms to eat is for the experts but if I am sure of their safety I love them...

  4. I love that second shot. It seems like there should be a fairy or something underneath it or maybe I've been reading too many children's books lately :)

  5. Your mushroom images are delightful! I especially like the first one!!! Our family will eat wild morels. It is one of the "fool proof" varieties and easy to recognize, but that's it. Also, my husband has a forestry background, so plants and the woods are his thing. That makes me feel safe with his choice:)

  12. I do love mushrooms now, but not when I was younger. We used to go mushroom hunting then and I didn't want to eat them for the fear of being poisoned.
    Wonderful images.

  16. Beautiful mushrooms! I think the first one is the best of the bunch! Mushrooms are quite photogenic. As long as there have been people, there have been people who know what mushrooms are good to eat and what mushrooms are good to kill flies with. How cool that your dad was in the know! My grandfather and great-grandmother were. Wish I had asked more. Thanks for posting!

  17. Love these, especially the first one. It's a very cool perspective. I love mushrooms, but I'd be scared to eat wild mushrooms, too.
