Oh, what luck!

f5.6, 1/80s, ISO100, focal length 105mm

I was outside in the rain crouched down on the ground, my camera on a tripod at the shortest height, holding an umbrella, and trying to get a shot of water droplets on leaves. I was using my telephoto so I could zoom in and get something akin to a macro. Well, wouldn't you know it - this beautiful American Goldfinch landed on a feeder exactly 1.8 meters from me! I couldn't think about it so I just quickly turned my camera and tried my best! Of course my camera was not wanting to focus - darn! But I moved back a bit, pulled back the lens and just took as many shots as I could. I ended getting these wonderful photos!  I couldn't believe my luck!

  5. These are amazing. So sharp and close. I hope I can get this close to a bird at my feeder one day. They always fly away before I get a chance. Your photos are beautiful. They brightened my day!

  14. The angle of the second shot makes a great photo! Usually one doesn't see the back of it like that.

  15. Great job! I love stories like this. Bird photography is tough stuff. Your brilliant captures show the ecstasy that so seldom follows the agony of catching the serendipitous opportunity. I can appreciate the joy you must have felt when you first saw what you had captured. Thank you for sharing this fantastic experience!
